Blog Set-Up
1. Go to wordpress.com
2. click on orange button to left that says, Start Here
3. Fill in the sign-up fields (Use an email address that you can access so they can send an activation code to it as the final way to finish the sign-up)
4. Once you get to your Dashboard, clikc on the left nav, Appearance. Either type in the search field, the theme name, “Benevolence” or click here.
5. Click the orange button, Activate. We will all be using the same theme for a couple different reasons mentioned in the discussions… the biggie is the CUSTOM HEADER and the no nonsense cleanliness.
6. Once you have this theme installed we want to create the custom header to make this theme a little more personal. Notice the menu that is at the top of the page, it is gray with text and links above. This is your gateway to your dashboard and home base for all content for the blog.
7. Go to Appearance > Header.
You will be putting a custom header you make in Photoshop in the first field. The dimensionso of this header ar 700 pixels by 225.
8. In Photoshop, make sure you go to File> Save for Web> save it as a .jpg or .gif — but select the optimized file type correctly bases on class discussion.
9. Once the image is loaded in, take out the old one, and save the new settings at the bottom of the header Appearance page.
10. Now, begin to post.

As an introduction of yourself to your classmates and myself, please answer the following questions for all of us to get to know you a little better:
1. What is your major here at El Camino?
2. What other courses are you taking?
3. Do you have Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign at home? If not, do you know where you can use them outside class hours?
4. Have you purchased the book yet, if not, do you know where to do this?
5. Do you know where the computer lab is?
6. Do you know the computer lab’s hours? If so, what are they, if not, post them from the white board tomorrow.
7. Do you know of any designers, if so, who?
8. Who is a successful designer in every day America?
9. If you could fly or be invisible, which would you choose and why?
10. What is your goal in the outcome of this class for yourself?
11. What is something about you that we would never learn without your answering this question?
12. Is there anything in particular you want to study in this course?
What is it about these advertisements that today would be a huge problem? I look forward to discussing this with you.
This is fantastic!

When designing projects, sometimes you need to add filler text so a client knows what the design will look like with text that they are not ready to insert. As designers we call this “Greeking.” This website offers Greeking in a WHOLE new way. It is fun and relevant at the same time. Enjoy!

Former NWA star lauds the Eames while taking a trip round their LA house
Rapper Ice Cube has revealed himself as an architecture buff after presenting a video on legendary architects Charles and Ray Eames.
In a film shot for arts website Pacific Standard Time, Ice Cube – who achieved fame as a member of NWA and has since been a highly successful rapper and actor – reveals that he studied architectural drafting before finding stardom.
Ice Cube, whose real name is O’Shea Jackson, waxes lyrical about the husband-and-wife design team while taking a tour around the Eames House in his native Los Angeles, comparing their efforts to sampling in rap music.
“They was doing mash-ups before mash-ups even existed,” he says.
The rapper also admires how they brought the surrounding nature of the site into the architecture. “This is going green 1949-style, bi**h,” he says.
Driving down Inglewood Boulevard in South LA, Ice Cube also breaks down “the good, the bad and the ugly” about art and architecture in Los Angeles with buildings on his good list including the Forum, 5 Torches, Cockatoo Inn and Watts Towers.
